MR.MARMALADE SET

FALL SET DESIGN

On this project, I was given a location for an upcoming play titled “Mr. Marmalade”. I was given the task of field measuring the site for all of the details, including door locations, window locations, lighting and electrical locations. Then I was given the opportunity to meet with the director of the play to find out what he was looking for in a set design. After obtaining all of his information and reading the script, I was tasked with creating a set for the play.
After re-reading the play and watching several versions that I found on the internet, I came up with a set design that I felt would work. Using Autocad to do the floor plans and Sketch-up for the renderings enabled me to further my practice with both software systems.
The challenges that I faced for this project was not limited to what the director wanted for the set, but also how to set up the audience seating for the proper viewing. After several attempts at both items, I reached a good balance for both. By trying to put myself in both the audience and the actor’s points of view, I believe I achieved what I set out to do.
